Pidj (“we,” “us”) is a letter-writing app: letters take real-world travel time to arrive, and senders can watch their delivery cross a 3D globe. This policy explains what information Pidj collects, why, and how you can control or delete it.
Account information. When you sign up, we collect your email address (via Google or Apple sign-in, or email/password) and the handle (username) you choose. This is used solely to operate your account and let other users address letters to you.
Location. Pidj uses your device’s GPS location, with your permission, to: (1) set your home perch (mailbox) location, (2) calculate realistic letter delivery times based on real-world distance, and (3) verify you are physically near a public perch before letting you read letters left there. Location is only requested when you use these features (foreground use) — Pidj does not track your location in the background. Other users never see your precise coordinates: your home perch location is fuzzed/approximated before being shown to anyone but you.
Letter content. The text of letters you write is stored so it can be delivered and later read by the recipient (or, for public perches, by nearby passers-by). Letters can optionally be sent anonymously, which hides your identity from the recipient but not from Pidj’s own systems (used for abuse handling).
Contacts and friend requests. If you send or accept a friend request, we store that connection so we can show it in your Contacts list.
Push notification data. If you enable notifications, your device registers a push subscription (an endpoint and encryption keys assigned by your browser/OS) so we can deliver notifications like “a letter has landed.” We do not use this to identify or track your device for any other purpose.
Usage analytics. We use Vercel Analytics, a cookieless, privacy-focused analytics service, to understand aggregate traffic and performance (e.g., which pages are visited, load times). This does not use tracking cookies or build cross-site advertising profiles.
We use the information above only to operate Pidj’s core features: creating and delivering letters, showing your delivery’s progress on the map, connecting you with friends, sending notifications you’ve opted into, and keeping the app secure and free of abuse.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data for third-party advertising.
Letter content you send is shared only with the intended recipient (or, for public perches, with any user who is physically nearby, since that’s the explicit purpose of a public perch). Your handle is visible to other users so they can address letters and friend requests to you. Your precise location is never shared with other users — only an approximated, rotating position for your home perch, and only for the purposes described above.
We share limited technical data (e.g., page load performance) with our infrastructure providers (Vercel for hosting/analytics, Supabase for our database and authentication) as needed to run the service. We do not sell data to data brokers or advertisers.
You can permanently delete your Pidj account from Settings → Delete account. Deleting your account removes your profile, handle, perches, push notification subscriptions, and friend connections. Letters you’ve already sent or received may be retained in de-identified form where necessary for the recipient’s own mailbox to remain intact, but will no longer be linked to your identity.
We retain your information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove or de-identify your personal data as described above, except where retention is required to comply with legal obligations or resolve disputes.
Pidj is not directed at children and is not intended for users under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “last updated” date above.
